Marci Baker
Marci Baker is a Senior Vice President of Gold Coast Communications, joining the firm this
year with more than 20 years experience as a journalist specializing in business and finance. She
has written and edited on staff or free lance for such national and international magazines as
Investment Dealers' Digest, Institutional Investor, Global Finance, Pensions & Investment Age,
the American Lawyer, Smart Money, Working Woman and Mother Jones.
Ms. Baker's most recent staff position was as Managing Editor of Investment Dealers' Digest,
where she was primarily in charge of producing the Wall Street magazine's cover story each week.
She joined IDD from Global Finance, where she was a Senior Editor and part of the initial editorial
team to launch the international finance magazine.
Before that, Ms. Baker worked at Crain Communications' Pensions & Investment Age and Institutional
Investor. She began her career in the newsletter division of Institutional Investor, starting out as
an entry-level reporter and rising quickly to become managing editor of its Money Management Letter.
Over the years, Ms. Baker has written on pension funds, money management, corporate and real estate
finance and investment banking. As a free lancer, she has also written on 401(k)'s and career and
workplace issues. Most recently, her work has taken her into Costa Rica and the travel and tourism
area. There, she has worked with a small publishing enterprise to redirect the coverage of an in-country
travel magazine, build a new travel web site for the northwest region of Costa Rica and help local
touris-related businesses launch their own web sites for an English-speaking audience.
Ms. Baker graduated with honors from New York University with a B.A. in Journalism in 1979. She speaks
Spanish, and is also a Certified scuba divemaster with the Professional Association of Dive Instructors (PADI).
